It's simply impossible to have a positive mind and positive emotions if you are constantly saying negative things. You must stop the negative self-talk and start the positive self-talk if you want to leave the Land of Depression. There is no other way.
The Law of Positive Direction states, "The wheel of change always turns in the direction of what you put into your mind." You actually push your mind in a positive direction by putting positive and healthy thoughts into your mind. If you put enough positive thoughts into your mind, you can actually create a positive brain.
You are not helpless, and your life is not hopeless. Your life instantly improves the moment you start putting good things into your mind. But getting rid of your cognitive distortions isn't enough. You need to go to the next level, a much higher level where there is no limit to how good your life can become. That next level can only happen if you install a positive operating system into your mind.
Simply getting rid of your negative thoughts does not automatically make you positive. Getting rid of the negative only gets you half way to where you want to go. You must install a positive operating system if you want to reach the next level and become a positive person. It's not enough to stop being negative. You need to become a positive person.

The second reflection lets you see what you can become when the power of God's love rolls through your heart and mind and makes you into a new person.
Christians get depressed just like everyone else. It would be nice if spiritual belief made you immune to mood disorders and clinical depression, but that is not the case. In some instances, depression may be worse in Christians because they think that their depression reflects a lack of faith in God, which makes them feel even more depressed. If you are clinically depressed, having faith in God is not going to make the depression go away. There are certainly positive benefits from having religious faith, but curing depression is not one of them.
Affirmations give you the power to change what is in your heart. They do more than change the way you think; they also change the way you feel. If you want to influence your emotional mind, don't argue with it. Instead overwhelm it with positive affirmations. The inner skeptic is massively susceptible to the power of positive affirmations. That is why affirmations are so valuable. You can repeat them until you overwhelm the inner skeptic and change the way you feel.
Eliminating the negative does not automatically make you positive. To become a positive person, you must put positive things into your mind.There is no other way to create a positive mind. Although my medical specialty is ophthalmic surgery, my real specialty is changing people's expectations. I take people with low expectations or no expectations, and I turn them into people with positive expectations. I get them to start believing in themselves. I teach them that they don't get what they want, they get what they expect. When people change their expectations, they become new people with a new life.
You have a lot of things to discuss with your mind, and everything that you say needs to be positive. You need to take command of your mind and control the thoughts that you find there. My operational defnition of depression is simple. If you are not in command of your mind and you don't control the thoughts that you find there, then you have significant depression.
Your brain is an affirming machine that spends its time affirming your beliefs about who you are and what you can do. Positive Thinking is actually affirmative thinking. Jesus understood this fact, and that is why he said, "As you believe, so shall it be done unto you." You don't get what you want. You get what you expect. What you affirm eventually becomes a part of your life. The problem with depression is that it is positive about things that are simply untrue, and that is why depression is so destructive. It always affirms negative things and makes your life worse.

The fog of depression and anxiety is like the fog of war. It's hard to see where you are going, and even if you could see, you might not know which way to head to escape. In those hard times, it's all to easy to get disoriented and to strap yourself into the electric chair of depression.
The journey out of the Land of Depression is like an uphill climb that never seems to end. You just keep moving forward and climbing upward hoping that soon you will come out at the top. Driving out of the Land of Depression can be like going up the Moqi Dugway. You have to remember that if you keep on keeping on and make good choices, you will eventually make it to the top. Just because it is a long upward climb does not mean it is impossible. You have to keep moving forward and not surrender to fear and despair, and eventually you will conquer your depression.
What you put into your mind is critical. You cannot fill your mind with toxic waste and expect that you will somehow magically become a positive person. Putting water in a gas tank will not turn the water into gasoline. Putting toxic waste into your mind will not turn the toxic waste into positive thoughts. If you put garbage in, you get garbage out. If you put good stuff in, you get good stuff out.
Do you choose depression or does depression choose you? I have never met a person who chose to be depressed. The general feeling out there is that depression just happens. I strongly disagree with that statement. Although people don't consciously choose to become depressed, they do make choices that pave the royal road to depression. The choices you make about what you put into your mind, the chemicals you use, the things you watch in the media, the conversations you have, and what you say to yourself all have a massive impact on whether you have a positive or negative mind.
I am a never quit sort of a person. Never quit is my mantra and my modus operandi. But when it comes to depression, you need to be an excellent quitter. You need to become an expert at how to send depression packing. If I was passing out blue ribbons to people who have won the battle for a positive mind and who no longer suffer with depression, the ribbon would say, "I am a quitter".
